Name/TitleChrome Plated Lung Tourniquet
About this objectA long shiny ovate sectioned chrome rod with a wheel at one end. The wheel has a matt grey face when seen from the side and has a chrome back section. The wheel has a string wound around on it that runs up through the rod with a loop at the narrow tip. The instrument was acquired by the donor from Milford Chest Hospital and it is believed to have come from King George V Hospital (also in Milford). The tape was placed around the lung vessels to control them (the tape has been replaced by string to show the action of the instrument). The original fine ligature has been placed string to allow a working demonstration. There is a maker's mark for "Spider London" the number "20" stamped on the wheel.
