The Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret is a medical museum located in the attic of an 18th-century church, once a part of the old St Thomas’ Hospital.  It is governed by the Lord Brock Trust, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, registered charity number 1155078.  There are ten trustees and a further team of three part-time employees.  The Museum is open 2 days per week and is currently rebuilding its offer after the impact of Covid-19.

RoleWelcome Hosts
TasksAs a Welcome Host, you are a key person in ensuring visitors have a great experience.  Based in the Museum during opening hours, the role includes:
– Welcoming visitors and checking their tickets
– Being a public face for the Museum
– Handing out guides, providing informal tours around the Museum, and answering questions about the exhibits
– Assisting with shop sales
– Encouraging visitors to make financial donations
– Carrying out light housekeeping tasks
– Monitoring, identifying and reporting any threats to the security or safety of visitors and the collections
– Ensuring the fire exits are clear
Skills & CommitmentThis role would interest you if you:
– Enjoy meeting and talking to new people
– Are keen to learn about the Museum
– Are interested in medical history and enthusiastic about sharing your knowledge
– Are willing to take on small ad-hoc tasks
– Can spare a few hours on a regular weekly basis
-This role is only available on Fridays and Saturdays when we are open to the public
